Wilson Sonsini hires Jindrich Kloub to strengthen Brussels arm

After working with EC's competition arm for more than ten years, Jindrich Kloub joins as a partner after a five-year stint in Hong Kong.

Jindrich Kloub, a former European Commission lawyer and antitrust expert, has joined Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati to help the firm's competition practice in Brussels.

Having served most recently as executive director for operations at the Hong Kong Competition Commission, Kloub offers nearly two decades of knowledge in competition law to his new role. He oversaw all antitrust enforcement actions as such, including setting new standards for the commission, first abuse of dominance enforcement action and inquiries into digital markets, settlements, director disqualifications and compliance remedies.

While in the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition, Kloub specialized in international cartel investigations, like those involving LIBOR and foreign exchange benchmark rate-fixing. He then spent the next five years in Hong Kong.

According to Wilson Sonsini managing partner Doug Clark: "Jindrich has worked at two enforcement agencies as Hong Kong's competition law was founded on EU competition law. The agencies are strongly engaged in monitoring and enforcing competition and antitrust rules of interest to our clients."

Having previously worked as an associate at German company, Roedl & Partner since 2006 till joining Wilson, Sonsini, Kloub returns to solo practice. After the hiring of Brent Snyder, the former chief executive officer of the Hong Kong Competition Commission, in March 2021, Kloub is the second former member of the Hong Kong Competition Commission's legal team to join Wilson Sonsini. He settled in the company's San Francisco headquarters.

Wilson Sonsini's Brussels managing partner, Cedric Burton, said, "Jindrich's accession to our Brussels office further underlines Wilson Sonsini's growing presence and strong brand in Europe - notably within the complicated and forever evolving digital regulatory framework that influences both antitrust and data protection."
