According to Ashurst, the head of its Madrid asset management and investment funds practice left for a rival firm.
The leading Spanish law firm Pérez-Llorca has appointed Josefina Garcia Pedroviejo as a partner in the finance group. She joins from Ashurst, where she worked as a counsel.
Garcia Pedroviejo spent more than a decade at Uria Menéndez, a leading Spanish law firm. Prior to joining Ashurst, he was a senior associate at Uria Menéndez. With experience working with banks, management companies and financial institutions, she has advised on authorization and passporting procedures for financial services, investment product creation and marketing, and socially and environmentally conscious investing as well as market structure. Her expertise in compliance and money laundering extends to providing advice to clients.
Josefina joins our finance team with a fresh perspective and a rich portfolio of clients, all of which will make many synergies and opportunities." Ander Valverde, Pérez-Llorca's banking and finance partner, added, "We are thrilled to have her on board."
Garcia Pedroviejo, the company's new leader, is bringing a new focus to the firm's financial services team, according to a spokesperson.
I am excited about embarking on this new stage in my career today. I join a highly competent, multidisciplinary finance team and have the chance to lead the financial services group in Pérez-Llorca. I hope to enhance the work of the practice by applying my previous experience."
Perez-Llorca made its first appearance in Iberian Lawyer's top 10 Spanish law firms ranking last April following a 2020 revenue of €68.5m, resulting in its tenth place ranking behind Linklaters.
A new office was opened in Brussels by Sonsoles Centeno in December; Centeno joined the firm from the Ministry of Justice, where he held the position of deputy director general for the European Union and International Affairs.
As previously announced in November, 2021, the firm will relocate its London office from the City to Mayfair to be closer to the large international funds based in the area that make up a large portion of its client base. Besides relocating to the New York office, three lawyers moved from their offices in Spain to join resident partner, Alvaro Ramirez de Haro.
A spokesperson for Ashurst said that its office in Madrid has been operating since 2001 and it has more than 60 lawyers there. As of September, 2021, former managing partner Maria José Menendez and head of corporate for Spain were elected to the board of directors.
The firm made up 14 lawyers across the global network on May 2021 including Madrid-based global loans and markets specialist Irian Martinez.
According to a spokesperson for Ashurst, Garcia Pedroviejo should have a bright future.
