Stewarts Law adds Sherina Petit in London to Head International Arbitration Team

She was earlier serving at Norton Rose Fulbright as a Partner for 15 years, leading the India practice

Leading disputes boutique firm Stewarts Law has hired Sherina Petit as Head of International Arbitration and Head of India.

Focusing on commercial arbitration under all major institutional rules, she is well-regarded for her acumen and knowledge of the International Chamber of Commerce and the London Court of International Arbitration tribunal procedures and practice.

Stuart Dench, the managing partner remarked, “We are delighted to confirm that Petit will join Stewarts as head of international arbitration and head of India. We will make a further announcement following her arrival at the firm.”

Sherina has strong leadership credentials. Earlier she headed the arbitration practice across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East at Norton Rose Fulbright.

She has expertise in investor-state dispute resolution, including business investment treaty claims, mediation, and litigation, relating to the enforcement of awards and judgments.

Also acknowledged for her India-related work, her entry coincides with the time of reform for Indian arbitration practice and liberalization for its commercial lawyers.

In March, the Bar Council of India announced that it would allow international law firms and counsels to practice foreign laws in India. This was seen as a significant shift of policy designed to attract foreign direct investment further.

Sherina’s arrival replenishes the firm’s international arbitration bench following the exit of former practice head Philippa Charles. It recently bolstered its commercial litigation team by hiring partner Alex Leitch.
