SoFi Appoints Stephen Simcock As New General Counsel As Rob Lavet Steps Down
SoFi Technologies, a US-based digital financial services business, has named Stephen Simcock as its new General Counsel, succeeding retiring Chief Legal Officer Rob Lavet.
Simcock joins SoFi from JPMorgan Chase & Co, where he served as Vice Chairman of its legal department and General Counsel of its retail banking business. In his new role, Simcock will be responsible for overseeing all legal matters, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance at SoFi.
Headquartered in San Francisco, SoFi offers financial services to its 8.1 million members, including personal loans and savings. Anthony Noto, CEO of SoFi, expressed confidence in Simcock, citing his extensive experience in financial services and leadership qualities as valuable assets for SoFi's growth strategy.
Having spent nearly a decade at JPMorgan, Simcock brings a wealth of experience from previous roles at Citigroup, where he served as General Counsel for its retail banking business. He also held various positions, including a stint in London as General Counsel for Citigroup's EMEA retail bank and private banking unit.
Simcock expressed enthusiasm for joining SoFi, emphasizing the company's commitment to helping its members achieve financial independence through consumer-focused products. "SoFi’s mission and values align perfectly with mine."
Meanwhile, Lavet steps down as Chief Legal Officer after nearly 12 years in the role. He will remain with SoFi as a director of SoFi Bank.
Noto acknowledged Lavet's significant contributions to SoFi's growth and praised his leadership, noting Lavet's instrumental role in the company's major milestones since joining as the 33rd employee. "Throughout his tenure, Rob has been the gold standard of a SoFi culture carrier, demonstrating our core values in all he does. I will be eternally grateful to Rob as a colleague, a mentor, and a friend."
