Singapore’s Prolegis Boosts Disputes Practice with Hire of Daniel Chia and Team

Daniel Chia, formerly head of Asia disputes practice at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, has joined Prolegis, the Singapore alliance law firm of Herbert Smith Freehills. Chia will lead a team of four lawyers at Prolegis.

Chia, along with fellow directors Jonathan Tang and Yanguang Ker, will spearhead the development of Prolegis’ disputes practice, with Chia serving as the firm’s head of litigation. Associate Charlene Wee is also part of the team and will collaborate closely with Herbert Smith Freehills’ Southeast Asia disputes practice team.

Chia has almost 20 years of experience in commercial litigation, arbitration, restructuring, and insolvency proceedings. He brings with him extensive experience in representing clients in regulatory, commercial fraud, and business crime defense matters before the Singapore High Court, Court of Appeal, and Singapore International Commercial Court.

Prior to joining Prolegis, Daniel Chia worked at Drew & Napier and most recently served as the head of Asia disputes practice at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

Tang specialises in corporate restructuring, workouts, and debtor-led insolvency for clients in various sectors such as private capital, financial services, energy and resources, manufacturing, and fintech. He represents debtor companies, creditors, liquidators, and insolvency professionals.

Ker’s practice focuses on advising clients in the areas of commercial litigation and arbitration, employment law, and white-collar crime defence. He has particular expertise in private capital, energy and resources, financial services, digital assets, bankruptcy, and construction sectors.

Prolegis’ recent hire of Daniel Chia, Jonathan Tang, and Yanguang Ker as directors brings the firm’s total number of directors to eight. Among their ranks is Adrian Wong, an energy specialist who joined Prolegis from CMS in June 2021.
