Mourant Opens Singapore Office, Hires Maples Partner
Offshore law firm Mourant is opening its ninth office worldwide and second in Asia in Singapore. The office will be led by funds expert Craig Luton, who joins the firm as a partner from Maples and Calder.
Luton, formerly a partner in Maples' funds and investment management team, specialises in setting up the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands private equity funds, venture capital funds, and hedge funds.
At Mourant, Luton will collaborate closely with the firm's litigation, banking and finance, and governance services teams across Asia to support the development of these practices in Singapore.
With the launch of this new office, Mourant aims to capitalise on Singapore's growing importance as a global financial centre and the Southeast Asian financial services market, the firm said in a statement.
Mourant opened its first Asian office in Hong Kong in 2012.
Mourant expanded into Luxembourg earlier this year, acquiring law firm LexField and governance services business FideField.
The expansion into Singapore brings the firm's total headcount to 700.
