Mayer Brown Expands Middle East Practice with Addition of Anne Wicks as Partner in Global Energy Group
Mayer Brown has added Anne Wicks to its team as a Partner within the Global Energy group based in Dubai. In her new role, Wicks will concentrate on project development and oversee corporate and financial transactions in the Middle East. Her focus will encompass upstream, midstream, and downstream activities in the oil and gas sector, along with liquefied natural gas (LNG), power ventures (including renewable energy), water projects, and other infrastructural aspects including public-private partnerships (PPPs).
Wicks comes to Mayer Brown from White & Case, where she previously held the position of managing partner at their Doha office.
“Anne is an experienced energy and infrastructure lawyer with valued knowledge of the global energy markets,” said Alex Chequer, leader of the Firm’s Global Energy Group.
“There are significant growth opportunities in the energy, projects and infrastructure sectors in the region, with many international companies looking to heavily invest in the Middle East, as well as regional companies and sovereign wealth funds looking to diversify their assets and expand their geographical footprint. Having Anne on the ground means we can better support both regional and global clients with their strategies,” Chequer added.
Drawing from her specialised expertise in the Middle East, Wicks provides companies, host governments, project developers, and sponsors with a high-calibre advisory service tailored to the region. Her proficiency encompasses corporate matters and the facilitation of project development and financing transactions. This comprehensive guidance applies specifically to the oil and gas, petrochemical, power, and infrastructure sectors.
Tom Thraya, Chair of Mayer Brown’s Middle East practice and Managing Partner of its Dubai office said: “The conventional energy sector in the Middle East remains very strong and, at the same time, we are seeing energy players diversifying and preparing for the energy transition. Anne is a great asset to our regional offering, where we see an increased focus on the downstream sector and an uptick in activity around sustainable energies, ESG and compliance and regulatory matters, as well as a focus on capital markets. Her relationship with key entities in the MENA region will help strengthen our foothold in the global energy market, allowing us to tap into existing and new opportunities in the infrastructure and energy sectors.”
