US doughnut giant Krispy Kreme has named Atiba Adams as Chief Legal Officer. He replaces Catherine Tang, who announced her departure in March.

He will oversee legal matters and report directly to the firm’s CEO and President John Charlesworth.

Charlotte, North Carolina-based Krispy Kreme, famous for its glazed doughnuts, operates in over 35 countries.

Commenting on the development, Charlesworth said, “Adam’s strong global legal background, public company experience and expertise in the sweet treat industry makes him a great addition to the team.”

Adams added, “I am thrilled to join Krispy Kreme, an iconic global brand with tremendous growth opportunity. I look forward to partnering with the global leadership team and contributing to the company’s continued success.”

Until recently, for nearly two years, Adams worked at Bausch + Lomb, having previously been the General Counsel at Mars Global Petcare and Mars Global Chocolate. He spent over 14 years at Pfizer, with over 13 years as assistant general counsel and a year as corporate secretary and chief governance counsel.

Adams started his legal career as a law clerk in the US District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. He moved into private practice as an associate at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.
