Jones Day Strengthens Global Disputes Practice with Addition of Marta de Cara in Madrid

Jones Day has bolstered its Global Disputes Practice by appointing Marta de Cara as counsel in their Madrid office. De Cara brings over 12 years of experience advising corporations and financial institutions on a broad spectrum of arbitration and litigation matters.

De Cara's expertise covers civil, corporate, and insolvency law, with a particular focus on directors' liability, indemnities, and breach of contract disputes. She also possesses extensive experience handling Non-Performing Loan (NPL) portfolios and has represented clients in criminal proceedings related to intellectual property rights and white-collar crimes.

"Marta's extensive experience in cross-border litigation and international arbitration, including investment arbitration, commercial arbitration, and ad hoc proceedings, strengthens our ability to serve clients facing complex commercial disputes globally," said Sion Richards, who leads Jones Day's Global Disputes Practice.

De Cara joins a team of over 200 dispute resolution lawyers spread across more than 25 Jones Day business centres globally. This international team tackles challenging legal matters in various jurisdictions and high-value disputes within those regions. De Cara will collaborate with her colleagues to devise successful dispute resolution strategies, utilising litigation, arbitration, or a combination of both, depending on the specific case.

"Our Madrid team collaborates closely with colleagues across Europe and globally to serve our clients in diverse practice areas," said Marta Delgado Echevarría, Partner-in-Charge of the Madrid office. "Marta's reputation in litigation and arbitration precedes her in the Madrid legal community. Furthermore, her experience in construction, transportation, and oil & gas sectors complements our capabilities in these industries. We are thrilled to welcome her to Jones Day."

Marta de Cara holds memberships in the Bar Association of Madrid, the Spanish Arbitration Club, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She earned a master's degree in Law from IE Law School and a combined degree in Law and Business from Granada University.

"I have immense respect for Jones Day's Global Disputes Practice and its team of lawyers who deliver integrated solutions for complex legal matters across various jurisdictions," said Marta de Cara. "I'm eager to collaborate with my new colleagues in Madrid and around the world."
