Japanese Law Firm Nagashima Ohno Forms Partnership with IM & Partners in Jakarta

Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, a prominent Japanese law firm, has formed a new partnership with IM & Partners, a recently established independent Indonesian firm founded by Ichsan Montang, a former partner based in Singapore.

The partnership was established in February of this year, and IM & Partners has been operating under its name in association with Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu. This collaboration will allow both firms to offer an even broader range of legal services to clients in Indonesia and beyond.

Ichsan Montang joined Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu in Singapore in 2017 as a foreign attorney. He brings with him extensive experience in advising both Japanese and international clients on Indonesia-related legal matters.

His practice is primarily focused on general corporate affairs, including mergers and acquisitions, foreign direct investment, technology and telecommunications, and real estate business.

Montang's wealth of expertise in these areas will be a significant asset to the newly established IM & Partners, and his longstanding relationship with Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu will further solidify the collaboration between the two firms.

As part of its efforts to support IM & Partners, Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu will also be transferring its Singapore-based counsel, Yoichi Maekawa, to the newly established Indonesian firm by the end of this year.

Maekawa is a Japan-qualified lawyer with an impressive track record in handling legal matters related to Indonesia. His experience and expertise in this field will further strengthen the partnership between the two firms and enable them to provide an even more comprehensive range of legal services to clients.

According to an official statement released by Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, the firm has been placing a strong emphasis on its Asian practice, with a particular focus on strengthening its knowledge and expertise in Indonesian legal matters.

To achieve this objective, the firm has been forming partnerships with prominent local law firms, sending its Japan-qualified lawyers to Indonesia, and recruiting and training Indonesia-qualified lawyers in its Singapore office.
