Brian Shonubi has recently joined Covington’s Dubai office, bringing his expertise as of counsel to the firm’s global finance practice.
With a focus on cross-border and emerging markets, particularly in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and India, Brian's practice encompasses various areas such as project finance, structured finance, acquisition finance, syndicated lending, and cross-border regulatory law. He is also well-versed in advising on English law transactions for inbound funds into Africa across diverse legal systems and jurisdictions. Brian's clientele includes lenders, investors, sovereign entities, and sponsors spanning sectors such as financial institutions, energy, infrastructure, mining and commodities, transport, technology, telecoms, as well as life sciences & healthcare.
As a member of Covington's cross-border finance team, Brian will primarily focus on lender-facing work, handling American and European financings and investments in Africa and the Middle East, along with Middle Eastern financings and investments in Africa. He will collaborate closely with the firm's Project Development & Finance practice to enhance the firm's finance offerings.
Brian is a member of the bar of England & Wales and is authorized to practice in Uganda. Additionally, he contributes his expertise as a member of the Loan Market Association’s (LMA) Africa documentation drafting committee.
