ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok has appointed former Warner Bros Legal Chief John Rogovin as its Global General Counsel He replaced Erich Andersen, who took on a new role as a Special Counsel.
The legal veteran in the entertainment sector joined ByteDance on 1 June and will be overseeing the legal matters of its subsidiary, TikTok which faces a potential ban in the US amid concerns about the security of user data.
At Warner Bros, he was responsible for offering global legal support, including intellectual property, litigation, privacy, compliance, regulatory enforcement and M&A.
Rogovin was the former Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Warner Bros and Warner Media from 2008. He left when Warner Media merged with Discovery in 2022 and had been running his own consultancy company since then.
He joins the company at a time when a new legislation passed in the United States is attempting to force the tech company to sell TikTok to a non-Chinese company which would be extended by three months if a sale is in progress, or else the video-sharing platform will be banned by January.
On his joining, Rogovin said, He said: “I am incredibly excited to be joining this world-class team and look forward to helping to ensure that our platforms continue to provide a critical forum for more than two billion users worldwide to entertain, teach and connect with one another.”
