Barnes & Thornburg Bolsters its Wilmington Office with New Real Estate Partner

Wali W. Rushdan II has joined Barnes & Thornburg as a partner in the firm's Wilmington office, bringing his expertise in real estate transactional and litigation matters, land use, and construction matters to the firm's Real Estate Department.

As an accomplished trial lawyer, Rushdan has successfully represented Fortune 500 companies, government entities, and small businesses in various real estate litigation matters.

His areas of expertise include condemnation and eminent domain litigation, construction defect disputes, complex landlord-tenant disputes, quiet title actions, real property partition actions, specific performance actions, and real property foreclosures and sheriff’s sales.

Salvador P. LaViña, the head of the firm's Real Estate Department, commented that Wali's extensive knowledge and experience make him a valuable asset for his clients who need guidance through the legal complexities involved in real estate deals, development, and disputes.

“Wali’s track record and experience in closing transactions and reducing risk helps to ensure his clients are on the right track in their major development projects,” Salvador P. LaViña added.

In addition to his litigation practice, Rushdan also provides legal counsel to real estate owners and developers on commercial real estate transactions and assists in obtaining land use approvals.

“Our real estate practice is a core group in Delaware and we are thrilled to welcome Wali as we continue our strategic growth,” said Thomas McGonigle, partner-in-charge of Barnes & Thornburg’s Wilmington office, adding that Rushdan’s first-chair trial experience and sound business judgment are highly valued by the firm’s clients in Delaware.

Aside from his legal practice, Rushdan, who obtained his J.D. from Rutgers University Law School and his B.A. from the University of Delaware, is also an advocate of community service and continues his mentorship work and involvement in various civic initiatives focusing on public education, health equity, and affordable housing.
