Dentons' Sydney based Partner (Professor) Donald Robertson has been appointed by the Governing Council of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) to be Correspondent for Australia within the Pacific region.

His appointment is commenced for a period of 3 years (June 2022 to May 2025.

Prof. Donald was nominated by the Australian Government. His appointment is in the two key commercial areas of International Commercial Contract Law and Transnational Civil Procedure and follows nomination by the Australian Government. Considered to be a rare honor, it is bestowed upon Prof. Donald for his expertise in both fields.

Although originally UNIDROIT was formed as an organization of the League of Nations, UNIDROIT is now an intergovernmental organization responsible for a large number of international agreements and conventions in the commercial area.

One of the key documents are the Principles of International Commercial Contracts, with the 1st edition in 1994 and now in its 4th edition in 2016. The work on international contract law continues with projects underway in areas such as transnational investment law.

Dentons Australia Chair and Australasia Region CEO Doug Stipanicev said "We could not be more delighted to congratulate Donald on this unique and prestigious position within UNIDROIT, which reflects Donald as a leader in his field."
