Hitoshi Sumisawa Joins Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu as Special Advisor

Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu has announced the addition of Hitoshi Sumisawa, former Commissioner of Japan’s National Tax Agency (NTA), as a special advisor, effective October 16, 2024. With a distinguished career beginning at the Ministry of Finance in 1988, Sumisawa brings over 30 years of experience in tax planning policy and taxation practice.

During his tenure at the Ministry, he held key positions, including Director-General of the Main Taxation Bureau and Commissioner of the NTA. His extensive experience equips him with in-depth knowledge in tax policy formulation and its practical implications, along with a robust network within taxation authorities.

At Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, Sumisawa’s expertise in tax planning and execution will enhance the firm’s established tax practice, allowing them to provide more effective tax solutions to clients. He joins a distinguished group of special advisors that includes former Supreme Court Justices Hiroyuki Kanno and Yuko Miyazaki.

This strategic addition aims to further strengthen the firm's capabilities in addressing complex tax issues for its clientele in Tokyo and beyond.
