Central Government Notifies Appointment of Budi Habung from Arunachal Pradesh as Gauhati High Court Judge
The Central Government has officially announced the appointment of Budi Habung, a judicial officer from Arunachal Pradesh, as a judge of the Gauhati High Court.
In a notification released on Saturday, the President of India has appointed Habung as an additional judge for two years.
The appointment of Habung as a judge of the Gauhati High Court was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on August 17.
The Collegium's resolution, as published on the Supreme Court website, highlighted that Habung holds the position of the senior-most judicial officer in Arunachal Pradesh.
The resolution also made note of the fact that Habung's name had been initially recommended by the High Court Collegium on April 26. This recommendation was in response to the need to fill the sole service post designated for the State of Arunachal Pradesh within the Gauhati High Court.
With the appointment of Budi Habung, the Gauhati High Court will be operating with 25 judges, which falls short of its sanctioned strength of 30 judges.
