Seyfarth Shaw appoints cross-border employment expert as Partner

Weaver advises multinational employers on their Asia-Pacific HR-related legal issues including employment law, immigration, data privacy and benefits.

Regional cross-border employment specialist Kathryn Weaver has been hired as a partner by the US law firm Seyfarth Shaw in Hong Kong from Lewis Silkin.

Weaver was the head of the office of Lewis Silkin in the special administrative regions (SAR) of the People's Republic of China.

While Lewis Silkin's has witnessed the moving out of two partners since November, Seyfarth Shaw has added three new partners in the past 12 months.

Her stint with Lewis Silkin lasted for more than 15 years. She was a partner and the head of its Hong Kong office since 2018.

With Weaver's departure, Lewis Silkin has seen the loss of its second Hong Kong partner since November, when IP head David Swain moved to Essex Bio-Technology as general counsel.

At the same time, Weaver's arrival at Seyfarth means the firm has, over the past year, added three partners to the Hong Kong office.

Previously, corporate and commercial partner Stefano Beghi had joined Seyfarth in October while technology, media, and telecommunications partner Paul Haswell joined the firm in January.

Beghi left Gianni & Origoni to join Seyfarth and Haswell moved out from Pinsent Masons.

With Weaver's addition, Seyfarth's headcount in Hong Kong office, which opened in 2017, has gone up to eight.
