Morrison Foerster Welcomes Gregory Salathé As Partner, Enhancing Tokyo's M&A Expertise

Morrison Foerster, a Leading Global Law Firm, has announced the appointment of Gregory Salathé as a Partner in its Corporate Group. With over 30 years of extensive experience in international private equity and M&A, Mr. Salathé has practiced in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, and New York. He will officially join the firm in September and subsequently relocate to Tokyo.

Previously serving as Partner and Group General Counsel at PAG, one of Asia's largest independent alternative fund managers overseeing more than US$55 billion in assets, Mr. Salathé brings deep expertise in private equity transactions, real estate, infrastructure, and credit lending across Asia. His career spans multiple global law firms in the U.S. and Asia, where he has advised on complex international transactions across sectors such as financial services, hospitality, and life sciences.

“We are thrilled to welcome Greg to the firm,” said Ken Siegel, Managing Partner of Morrison Foerster’s Tokyo office and head of the office’s M&A team. “Private equity in Japan is booming, and we have seen deal volume and size increase dramatically since the end of Covid restrictions in Japan last year. Greg will help us meet our clients’ growing need for seasoned, strategic, cross-border transactional advice. He gives a significant boost to our capabilities representing funds and companies investing in Japan and the region, further cementing our reputation as the top international law firm in Japan.”

Mr. Salathé’s arrival marks Morrison & Foerster’s continued strategic expansion in Japan, following the recent addition of Corporate partner Stephen DeCosse in October 2023. The firm's Tokyo office boasts a robust team of over 100 attorneys qualified in the U.S., UK, and Japan, making it the largest international firm in Japan. Recognized as the top international law firm for M&A in Japan by Chambers Global, Chambers Asia-Pacific, and The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, Morrison Foerster continues to handle high-profile and complex M&A transactions in the market.

“I am excited to be joining Morrison Foerster and returning to Tokyo where I practiced for over a decade prior to joining PAG,” said Mr. Salathé. “Dealmaking in Japan is robust and on a positive trajectory, and I am excited to grow my private funds and corporate practice, which will complement the firm’s exceptional global platform.”

Mr. Salathé brings to Morrison Foerster a truly international practice, having worked in Hong Kong, Singapore, and New York (where he began his career), as well as Tokyo, where he previously served as the Managing Partner of a prominent firm.

He is recognized as a top lawyer by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific. Mr. Salathé earned a B.A. with Honors in History from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and obtained his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was published in the Virginia Law Review. He is admitted to practice law in New York.
