M&A Ace Sanjay Murti Moves to Freshfields in New York

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer continues its US expansion by recruiting Sanjay Murti, a recently promoted M&A partner from top Wall Street firm Cravath Swaine & Moore. This strategic hire strengthens Freshfields' US M&A practice.

Sanjay’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, shareholder activism defense, corporate governance and general corporate matters spanning many industries. He has worked on numerous M&A transactions, including high-profile sales and acquisitions of publicly traded companies, acquisitions and sales of private companies, carve-out divestitures and spin-offs, joint ventures and other strategic partnerships.

After dedicating his entire legal career to Cravath Swaine & Moore, Murti has embarked on a new chapter, joining the corporate department of a prestigious UK Magic Circle firm. Having steadily climbed the ladder at Cravath, from associate in 2014 to partner in 2022, Murti brings a wealth of M&A experience to his new role.

“I’ve seen first-hand Sanjay’s experience with complex, high-profile M&A transactions and I’m thrilled that he’s chosen to join Freshfields to complement our growing M&A team,” Damien Zoubek, co-heads the US corporate and M&A practice, said while praising Murti’s technical skill and judgement.

A seasoned corporate lawyer with expertise in M&A, Murti joins Freshfields with a proven track record in shareholder activism defence, corporate governance, and general corporate matters. He has previously advised renowned clients like Qualcomm, Nestlé, Johnson & Johnson, and Stanley Black & Decker while at Cravath.

“I am excited to be joining Freshfields and their M&A team at a time of such momentum for the firm. They have established themselves as a top-tier destination practice, and it is the ideal place for me to grow my practice,” Murti said.
