He was a partner at Shearman & Sterling for the past two years

The Magic Circle firm Linklaters has hired Rahul Chatterji as a partner in its Asia banking practice to bolster the firm’s leveraged finance offering. Rahul who joins Linklaters in May this year will initially be based out of London and will later relocate to Singapore.

A debt finance lawyer, he advises lenders and borrowers on complex cross-border financing transactions, including leveraged buyouts, public-to-private transactions, investment-grade borrowings, and special situation transactions.

David Irvine, the global co-head of leveraged finance at Linklaters’ said, “We are delighted to have Chatterji on board. Leveraged finance is a key growth area for the firm, reflected by the three internal promotions and four lateral hires into our team over the past year. I look forward to working closely with him as we continue to support our clients’ needs.”

Narayan Iyer, the head of the India group, and Philip Badge, the Asia head of banking at Linklaters remarked, “The Indian economy is one of the fastest-growing in the world and offers exciting opportunities for our clients. Chatterji’s cross-jurisdictional expertise in advising on leveraged finance matters and familiarity with the Indian market enhances our India-facing offering and provides synergies with the existing leveraged finance team in London and China, as well as with other practices in the region. His skill set will strengthen a targeted area of growth.”

Chatterji has a track record in offshore Indian transactions. He will focus on India and Southeast Asia leveraged finance markets, working closely with the firm’s Singapore and London teams to support clients across Asia. He is also expected to play a key role in developing the firm’s existing India-facing structured lending business along with its capital markets team in Singapore.

He was previously working as a partner at Shearman & Sterling in London and prior to that was serving at Milbank.
