International law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) has hired former US chair, Jeff Haidet, leading IP lawyer Song Jung, and a group of additional team members on the IP team. Among them, seven Partners have joined the transatlantic firm in Atlanta and Washington DC.
The Partners and patent professionals were working at Dentons with Jung, who founded and chaired the global IP and Technology group. He is now the Global Chair of Patents at BCLP.
Lisa Mayhew and Steve Baumer, BCLP co-chairs said the new appointments amplified the firm’s growth strategy. The depth of IP experience and technical expertise the group brings will be a “game-changer.”
Song Jung has built one of the preeminent intellectual property practices in the world, recognized by Intellectual Asset Management magazine and Managing IP Guide, among others. His practice area spans all aspects of patent law, including patent prosecution, litigation, validity and infringement opinions, licensing, technology transfer, patent acquisitions and settlement negotiations.
He has advised clients through numerous IP litigation matters covering a wide range of technologies and industries in national and international jurisdictions. These matters have resulted in some of the top verdicts in recent years, including one of the largest IP cases in history, the LG Chem vs. SKI trade secrets case over lithium-ion battery cells, which settled for $1.8 billion. Jung remarked, “Complex IP matters and disputes are the heart of our practice. These complement BCLP’s willingness and desire to expand its top-tier litigation and IP capabilities for clients around the globe.”
Jeff Haidet, who will be based in Atlanta, joins BCLP’s Corporate and Finance transactions department. He will advise global and domestic businesses on complex transactions, financial structuring, M&A, joint ventures, strategic alliances and industry consolidation. Having more than two decades of experience in law firm management as a senior leader and advisor on law firm strategic growth initiatives, Jeff’s addition will benefit BCLP as the firm continues to advance its own growth strategy. Throughout his career, Jeff has represented law firms and other professional service firms regarding governance matters, succession planning, and the acquisition and development of ancillary businesses.
The IP partners joining Jung are Mark Kresloff, Bumrae Cho, Yong Choi, Tyler Goodwyn, and Bruce Vance. The team specializes in patent work in telecommunications, wireless technologies, chemical and biotechnology, and finance sectors.
BCLP said the group would strengthen its global patent prosecution, transactional and International Trade Commission (ITC) Section 337 proceeding capabilities. Section 337 orders prohibit the import of foreign goods into the US that infringes patents.
