Clifford Chance Expands US Antitrust Presence with Two Key Partner Additions

Clifford Chance has welcomed antitrust litigation partners Joseph Ostoyich and William Lavery to its US Antitrust practice, strengthening the firm's global offering in competition and antitrust litigation. With over 200 attorneys, including 40 partners, spread across its international presence, this area of law is a core element of the firm's extensive services.

Ostoyich is the new head of the US Antitrust Litigation practice at the firm and brings over three decades of experience advising large private companies, Fortune 500, and Global 1000 on antitrust private litigations and investigations. He has been the lead trial counsel on many antitrust cases, with expertise in class actions, price fixing and monopolisation litigation, and merger and non-merger investigations.

“More than 130 jurisdictions now have antitrust laws and the relative level of antitrust enforcement around the globe continues to rise. The addition of these two exceptional practitioners further cements our ability to keep our clients at the forefront of developments,” Marc Besen, Global Co-Head of Antitrust at Clifford Chance, said.

According to Timothy Cornell, the Head of the US Antitrust practice, antitrust cases have increased significantly in recent years, and the trend shows no signs of slowing down. This has resulted in government agencies and private plaintiffs challenging more mergers and acquisitions.

“In this time of increasing demand, Joe and Will add further depth to our US antitrust litigation offering and lift our market-leading reputation,” Timothy Cornell said.

“Clifford Chance’s antitrust team sets a benchmark for global integration which is critical for top-tier clients who often need to navigate the regulatory environment in different markets. I am delighted to join such a dynamic team and look forward to continuing many years of successful collaboration with Will,” Ostoyich said.

Lavery expressed his delight in joining the market-leading antitrust team around the world, along with his colleague Joe, citing his valuable experience. “The growth of this team has been widely recognised in recent years and for us to now be part of this is very exciting,” Lavery added.
