Clifford Chance Bolsters US Tech Group with Quartet of Partner Appointments, Including Violetta Kokolus
Clifford Chance disclosed on Tuesday the appointment of partner Violetta Kokolus to its Global Tech Group in the United States. This recruitment signifies a local extension of the practice, comprising over 600 attorneys, that furnishes clients with comprehensive legal counsel on technology-related issues spanning a wide spectrum impacted by rapid technological changes. Additionally, the announcement of three additional partner additions is anticipated in the forthcoming weeks.
Drawing from over 15 years of experience, Kokolus possesses a wealth of expertise in collaborating with both emerging and established companies, as well as investors with a technology focus. Her guidance extends to evaluating technological aspects in public transactions and private investments across diverse sectors including asset management, payments, consumer products, data innovation, healthcare, tech-enabled services, robotics, and software. Moreover, Kokolus specialises in providing counsel on stand-alone intellectual property and data transactions, concentrating on collaborative ventures and strategic commercial arrangements.
Devika Kornbacher, co-head of the firm's Global Tech Group, became part of the team's US expansion in July 2022. She highlights the rapid globalisation of industry due to swift technological advancements as well as adoption and said that organisations are now focused on anticipating upcoming regulations and harnessing opportunities within this dynamic shift to maintain their leading position.
"Violetta's extensive insight into this complex space will provide our clients an immediate connection to the critical elements they must consider to thrive. I am personally delighted to now call her a colleague, and I cannot wait to see her integrate into our global team," Kornbacher stated.
Americas Regional Managing Partner Sharis Pozen adds, "This hire, and the three to follow, are driven by our ambition to build out our local US capabilities to match the scale of our global practice. Tech now runs deep through every market and across practice areas and we're committed to meeting our clients at the forefront of this evolution."
Kokolus said that Clifford Chance's truly global platform was an immediate draw for her.
“We're recently seeing significant changes in tech regulation both in the US and across the globe that will directly impact strategies and innovation for US-based companies and investors. I am eager to bring our global team into discussions with clients to provide a 360-degree perspective," Kokolus added.
The Tech Group at Clifford Chance functions as a cohesive global entity, providing clients with comprehensive tech law guidance encompassing a wide range of technology and digitisation-related subjects. This includes counsel on areas such as artificial intelligence, digital assets, green technologies, data, cybersecurity, and Web3. The addition of Kornbacher and Kokolus marks an ongoing phase of international expansion, which has seen the incorporation of multiple tech partners into the group. Notable appointments include Stella Cramer, based in Singapore, who leads the team for Asia Pacific, and Holger Lutz in Frankfurt, overseeing operations in Germany.
