Brown Rudnick Strengthens its Venture Capital Practice with Addition of Corporate Partner Michael Chung
On June 21, 2023, Brown Rudnick announced the addition of Michael Chung as a partner in their New York office. Chung will be joining the firm's esteemed Emerging Growth Companies & Venture Capital practice.
Chung brings extensive expertise in advising startups and venture-backed companies at every stage of their growth journey. His counsel spans various areas, including incorporation, fundraising, corporate governance, day-to-day operations, strategic partnerships, and M&A transactions. Furthermore, he represents a diverse client base, including venture capital funds, family offices, impact funds, and corporate venture arms, across a broad spectrum of industries. These industries encompass consumer products, new media, fintech, SaaS, digital health, AI, and cybersecurity.
Mark Dorff, the managing director of the Corporate & Capital Markets Department, expressed admiration for Michael Chung's impressive background, which seamlessly aligns with the objectives of the Emerging Growth Companies & Venture Capital practice at Brown Rudnick.
“His experience is an excellent addition to our team, which is consistently ranked as among the most active legal advisors in venture capital,” Dorff said.
Having co-founded RK Adler LLP in 2009, Chung played a pivotal role in transforming it into a leading boutique law firm in New York, specialising in guiding startups. The firm subsequently merged with Dentons LLP in 2015, creating a strong presence in the industry and establishing the Venture Tech Centre situated in Manhattan's vibrant SoHo neighbourhood. Before joining Brown Rudnick, Chung served as a partner at Fox Rothschild.
Recognised as a trusted advisor and advocate for his clients, Chung has maintained a strong commitment to promoting inclusivity and supporting underrepresented founders. He has actively collaborated with firms dedicated to fostering diverse ecosystems and providing funding opportunities.
Notably, Chung serves on the board of directors for the Fifteen Percent Pledge, a rapidly growing nonprofit organisation that strives to establish sustainable and supportive environments for Black-owned businesses. Under its initiatives, the organisation has successfully redirected $14 billion in revenue to Black businesses within three years.
In his new role at Brown Rudnick, Chung will continue his focus on these important endeavours. The firm shares a similar dedication to working extensively with diverse and underrepresented founders, as well as venture capital firms and nonprofits committed to enhancing diversity within the VC industry.
Chung expressed that throughout his career, he has been dedicated to providing clients with the necessary support and guidance to help them achieve significant milestones and progress to the next level of success.
“With Brown Rudnick’s strong track record of success for advising startups, I am confident my clients will benefit greatly from the Firm’s international platform and offerings,” Chung states.
Chung holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Brooklyn Law School, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Tufts University.
