Baker McKenzie has announced the appointment of Fernando Torrente as Partner overseeing M&A and Capital Markets in its Madrid office with effect from July 1, 2023.

Renowned for his expertise in the transactional domain encompassing M&A and capital markets, Torrente stands as a highly esteemed Spanish lawyer. His extensive experience extends to corporate governance, as evidenced by his involvement in the Group of Experts responsible for advising the CNMV on the development of the Good Governance Code for Listed Companies, which received approval in February 2015.

Torrente, a law graduate from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid/CEU San Pablo, brings a wealth of experience in providing transactional legal counsel to prominent corporations, investment banks, family groups, and investment funds.

With an impressive portfolio that includes involvement in over 40 IPOs, he has consistently earned recognition from major legal directories as a top-tier lawyer in the fields of Corporate M&A and Equity Capital Markets.

Torrente’s consistent placement in annual transaction rankings further reinforces his reputation in the industry.

“I am convinced that the combination of local strength combined with Baker McKenzie’s global and multidisciplinary platform will allow us to offer the best legal advice to our clients in their most complex deals and transactions,” Torrente said.

With the inclusion of Torrente, Baker McKenzie expanded its team to encompass 44 partners and over 215 lawyers in Spain. This positions the firm as the international legal organisation with the most extensive history and significant presence in the Spanish market.
