African Law Firm Bowmans Expands Cape Town Litigation Team with New Partner
Bowmans, a prominent law firm in Africa, has recently bolstered its litigation department in Cape Town by welcoming Lucien Lewin as a new partner. Widely recognised for his expertise in handling legal cases related to commercial contract disputes, shareholder and director disputes, administrative and constitutional law, construction law, as well as competition law, Lewin is a highly respected litigation lawyer.
“During his many years as a litigation lawyer, Lucien has successfully handled a number of interesting and high-profile matters. We look forward to the contribution that he will make to Bowmans and our clients in the Cape Town region,” Ezra Davids, Bowman's chairman and senior partner, said.
Since his admission to the bar in 2010, Lewin has amassed extensive experience in the field of litigation. He has held key positions in several prominent legal firms, including serving as an equity partner and head of Litigation at a Cape Town-based law firm and working in the Litigation Department of a large law firm in Johannesburg.
Additionally, Lewin has also served as a legal manager and group company secretary of Capespan, a well-known citrus group.
During his tenure at Capespan, Lewin demonstrated his expertise in managing both local and international litigation cases, including a successful litigation in London on behalf of an Isle of Man-based company within the group.
Lewin played a pivotal role in the incorporation of new Capespan companies in several countries, such as Chile, Mauritius, Mozambique, and South Africa.
Among his career highlights, Lewin represented one of the national sports governing bodies in addressing historical mismanagement issues and successfully represented a national fitness group in renegotiating rental terms during the Covid-19 lockdown period.
Lewin is a distinguished alumnus of the University of Cape Town, where he earned his LLB degree in 2007. Notably, this was his second degree from UCT, having previously completed a BMus in piano and trombone.
Following his musical education, he spent four years as the principal bass trombonist at the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra before embarking on his legal career.
“We are delighted that Lucien has chosen to join Bowmans. His litigation skills, business acumen and legal management background will supplement our already-strong Cape Town litigation capability,” Davids added.
