Latham & Watkins has announced the joining of Alejandro Ortiz as a partner in the mergers & acquisitions and private equity practices at its Madrid office. He has earned a reputation as one of Spain's most experienced and knowledgeable public company M&A lawyers.

Ortiz advises domestic and international companies, private equity firms, and financial institutions on a variety of complex transactional matters. His particular focus lies on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, takeover bids, joint ventures, divestment, and refinancing.

Ignacio Gómez-Sancha, the managing partner at Latham & Watkins Madrid office said, "We are delighted to welcome Ortiz. He has a stellar reputation advising on some of the most significant deals in the Spanish market and brings a wealth of experience to our existing capabilities. His arrival underscores our company's M&A and private equity practice in Spain. He will be a significant contributor to our growth plans in Spain and across Europe."

Oliver Felsenstein, the global chair of the private equity practice at the firm remarked, "Ortiz's extensive experience advising on complex M&A deals and cross-border strategic alliances will be a major asset to our clients. His broad practice and client connections are highly complementary to the firm. His in-depth knowledge of the business landscape and stature in the market will add significant additional firepower to our already strong transactional practice."

Charles Ruck, the global chair of the firm's corporate department added, "Ortiz is a great fit for our practice. He is a talented partner and a strong business generator. It will benefit our strong antitrust, capital markets, finance, regulatory, and litigation practices."

Ortiz has over two decades of experience advising on big-ticket transactions across a range of high-growth industries. He guides boards and companies on corporate governance and regulatory matters. He also has deep experience counselling clients on a variety of complex leveraged finance, capital markets, and restructuring matters.
