The investment is for 65 billion dirhams ($6.4 billion)
International Law Firm, Dentons acted on behalf of the Sino-European group Gotion High-Tech in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and investment agreement with the Government of Morocco.
This was to consolidate the establishment of a 500-hectare Gigafactory with a projected capacity of 100 GWh per year. It is based in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region in the Kénitra Atlantic Free Zone commune.
With an astounding investment of 65 billion dirhams ($6.4 billion), the Gigafactory will pave the way to produce cutting-edge batteries, exclusively designed for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
The endeavor aims to position Morocco as a prominent player in renewable energy and electric mobility while escalating its status as an African automotive powerhouse.
The investment agreement signing ceremony with the Moroccan government took place recently in Rabat, the capital of Morocco. The Prime Minister of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch was present for the official signing, and the event was attended by key officials from Morocco and China.
The Dentons team representing Gotion High-Tech was led by the firm’s Morocco Managing Partner Omar Sayarh, who has expertise in mergers and acquisitions and domestic and foreign investments. He has dealt with large-scale, high-profile transactions.
