SNG & Partners Hosts Events To Celebrate Indo-Japan Relations And Visit Of H.E. Kenji Hiramatsu

SNG & Partners, a full-service law firm with offices in India and abroad, recently hosted two exclusive events in Mumbai and Delhi to celebrate its key initiatives aimed at enhancing Indo-Japan bilateral relations, particularly through its Japan Desk. The high-profile gatherings featured distinguished guests, including H.E. Kenji Hiramatsu, former Ambassador of Japan to India, and YAGI Koji, Consul General of Japan in Mumbai, along with prominent figures from the Japanese and Indian business communities, as well as the legal and political sectors.

As the Senior Advisor for the Japan Desk at SNG & Partners, Hiramatsu underscored the growing importance of India-Japan partnerships in business and diplomacy. “Given the evolving economic and political landscape between our two nations, it is essential to leverage our expertise and shared values. SNG & Partners is well-positioned to solidify this collaboration,” he stated.

The Japan Desk, launched earlier this year, was conceived by Founder & Chairman Rajesh Narain Gupta, who envisioned a platform for Indian and Japanese businesses to thrive together. Gupta has played a crucial role in forging strategic partnerships for the firm on both domestic and global fronts. Led by Ashish Kumar, Partner and Head of the Japan Desk, the unit offers comprehensive legal and business solutions for Japanese entities entering the Indian market and Indian companies seeking opportunities in Japan. Kumar remarked, “We are taking steps to further our vision to become the go-to legal advisor for Japan-India cross-border collaborations. While the establishment of the desk earlier this year has been one major step, we are now working towards ensuring seamless operations for businesses from both countries. Along with our commitment to make this work, our understanding of the cultural and legal nuances will form the bedrock of successful commercial relationships at the international level.”

Rajesh Narain Gupta, Chairman of SNG & Partners, further added, “The launch of the Japan Desk is another significant step towards our expanding international outreach. These events are the first amongst the series of initiatives by the firm to enhance global partnerships and synergies. While we are expanding on a global scale, the Japan Desk plays a crucial role in creating a bridge between two dynamic economies, helping businesses on both sides grow with the right legal strategies and advisory, particularly in emerging sectors such as banking, cybersecurity, and ESG.”

Amit Aggarwal, Managing Partner (Corporate & Non-contentious Practice), highlighted the need to attract mid-level Japanese businesses to India to explore the full potential of investment and collaboration opportunities. He noted, “A significant role is required to be discharged to bring in the mid-level businesses from Japan to India to explore the full potential of investment & collaboration opportunities that India offers to the world. One of the steps to achieve the “Made in India” objective of our Government of India, will be through the technical collaboration of Japanese companies with Indian companies. This will pave way for the further strengthening of manufacturing & technical excellence in India.”

As part of their broader efforts, SNG & Partners also highlighted the role of cultural understanding in business. H.E. Kenji Hiramatsu noted, “Cross-cultural collaboration is essential to the success of these initiatives. Legal and business matters are intertwined with cultural understanding. With SNG’s deep knowledge of both regions, we are confident in creating more opportunities for clients.”
