Asim Abbas Launches Spectra Law – a Firm Aimed at Tapping into the Tech Future

Asim Abbas has unveiled his latest endeavour with the inauguration of his own law firm, Spectra Law. Based in Delhi, Spectra Law makes its debut in the legal arena with Asim Abbas leading the firm, supported by a partner and a team comprising four associates.

Asim Abbas, drawing from India's thriving digital landscape, underscores the potential of the country's 900 million broadband subscribers. He asserts that the digital sphere stands at the precipice of a revolution, spanning fintech, healthtech, online gaming, and cloud-based services. Recognizing the interplay of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, the internet of things, augmented reality, and virtual reality, Abbas perceives not only legal hurdles but also vast opportunities, particularly for technology lawyers.

In his statement, Abbas highlighted the disruptive nature of new technology, stating, "The application of new technology is disruptive and ahead of the law, which would take time to evolve and catch up." He underscored the necessity for legal firms capable of addressing the unique challenges posed by the rapid advancements in technology. Abbas emphasized, "The motivation factor is to create a law firm, which can cater to the legal requirements of emerging technologies."

With an illustrious career spanning 32 years, Abbas brings a wealth of experience to Spectra Law. His journey includes serving as a civil servant in the Department of Telecommunications and holding significant positions in leading law firms such as Luthra and Luthra Law Offices. Notably, he was also associated with Bharti Airtel Ltd. as Vice President (Legal) for three years.

Joining Abbas as a senior partner is Amar Patnaik, a seasoned bureaucrat and a current member of Rajya Sabha. Patnaik's extensive involvement in parliamentary committees relating to data protection, information technology, fintech, and emerging technologies further bolsters Spectra Law's capabilities.

Specializing in TMT, space, e-commerce, data protection, cybersecurity, gaming, and more, Spectra Law offers a comprehensive suite of legal services. These services encompass corporate commercial matters, policy advice, regulatory guidance, contract negotiation, compliance, employment issues, transactional support, and litigation across various sectors.

Abbas envisions Spectra Law as a thought leader, committed to fostering domain knowledge, expertise, and practical solutions in emerging technologies. He aims to bring about significant changes by creating an institution with a holistic understanding of both the legal landscape and the applications of technology.

"With Spectra Law, our focus is to be a thought leader and have domain knowledge, expertise and experience in these areas, and provide practical and innovative solutions to legal challenges," said Abbas.

With its strategic focus on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, OTT, IOT, AR, VR, blockchain, and drones, Spectra Law is poised to make a substantial impact in India's legal arena. As Asim Abbas assumes his role as Managing Partner, the firm stands ready to navigate the complexities of the digital age and provide innovative legal solutions to its clients.
