Law Partnership mourns death of international IP partner Ameet Kaur Purba

Battling cancer, she breathed her last at the age of 46

Malaysian IP and technology boutique firm Law Partnership is mourning the death of IP partner Ameet Kaur Purba.

Brian Law, the managing partner at Law Partnership said, "Purba was battling cancer for some time. But despite that, she fought audaciously until the end."

Purba joined Law Partnership, a member of Eversheds Sutherland's Asia Pacific Alliance, from Malaysian independent Shearn Delamore & Coin in May 2020 as its sixth partner to help it grow its international IP practice. The Malaysian Eversheds Sutherland allied firm also paid tributes to her.

In a statement, her firm mentioned, "Purba persevered and met everyone with her optimism and cheery disposition, despite her ill health."

Suaran Sidhu, who co-founded the firm with Law in 2019, said, "She was a kind and wonderful soul with the fighting spirit of a tigress."

Purba was the immediate past president of the Malaysian Chapter of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property. She was recognized as a key lawyer by the Legal 500 directory and named in the 2021 World IP Review Influential Women in IP research.

She studied law at the University of London before spending nearly 14 years at Shearn Delamore, with seven years as a partner.

Purba advised local and international companies on a range of IP-related areas including advertising, consumer protection, copyright, domain names, gaming, e-commerce, entertainment, merchandising, anti-counterfeiting and TMT.
