K&L Gates Expands in Singapore with Key Additions to Energy, Infrastructure, and Resources Practice
K&L Gates Straits Law LLC, the Singapore office of global law firm K&L Gates, continues its growth by welcoming Partner Brad Roach and Senior Associate Alexandra Jones to the firm’s Energy, Infrastructure, and Resources (EIR) practice. Both Roach and Jones join from Gibson Dunn, where Roach served as Co-chair of the firm’s global Oil and Gas practice group.
With over 25 years of experience in Singapore, Roach is a recognized expert in Southeast Asia’s upstream oil and gas, LNG, power, and downstream energy sectors. He brings a leading M&A practice, having advised on transactions totaling over US$10 billion. Notably, he led the team that advised Murphy Oil on its US$2.127 billion divestment of Malaysian operations to PTTEP in 2019, marking the largest upstream M&A deal in Southeast Asia in nearly a decade.
Roach and Jones have a history of collaborating on high-profile deals. They advised Chevron on its Rokan PSC operations in Indonesia, including the divestment of the 200 MW North Duri cogeneration facility to PT PLN (Persero). Currently, they are working on the development of various oil and gas fields across Southeast Asia and pioneering industry-first carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in the region.
In addition to his M&A expertise, Roach has extensive experience in LNG project development, having advised on major projects like the Donggi-Senoro LNG and Tangguh LNG projects in Indonesia. He has also worked with state-owned energy companies on acquisitions, divestments, and project developments. Roach is a past director and regional committee member of the Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN), with numerous accolades from industry rankings recognizing him as a leader in his field.
J. Ryan Dwyer, III, Regional Managing Partner for Asia, commented, “Brad is an excellent addition to the firm and will strengthen our regional and global energy capabilities, given his extensive experience, relationships, and deep commitment to the region. We are excited to welcome Brad and continue to expand our Singapore and Asia-based offerings to meet increasing client demands.”
John Crossley, Energy, Infrastructure, and Resources Lead Practice Area Leader, added, “We are thrilled to have Brad and Ally join our EIR practice. Brad’s leadership and experience will help accelerate the strategic growth of our energy practice across Asia-Pacific, positioning us to meet the dynamic and evolving needs of the energy sector.”
Roach’s hire is part of a broader expansion strategy for K&L Gates in Singapore, following a series of recent lateral moves. Since January, the firm has added Asset Management and Investment Funds Partner Jason Nelms, Finance Partners Samuel Kolehmainen and Duc Nguyen, and Corporate Partners David Kuo and Meraj Noor.
K&L Gates’ Energy, Infrastructure, and Resources practice supports clients across a wide range of legal areas, including project development, finance, construction, energy regulation, government contracting, cross-border investment, acquisitions, and dispute resolution. With a global presence spanning Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South America, the firm assists clients in power generation, renewable energy, oil and gas, LNG, hydrogen, mining, transportation, and social infrastructure projects.
