The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) is set to issue a cease-and-desist order to Google for halting its monopolistic practices.
The Japanese competition watchdog began investigating Google in October last, for a possible breach of anti-monopoly laws in web search services. This happened after authorities in Europe and other major economies took similar steps.
Google Chrome is the world's most widely used web browser and a key component of its advertising business. It provides user information that helps in targeting ads effectively and profitably.
Recently, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) stated before the court that Alphabet-owned Google must divest its Chrome browser and should not be allowed to re-enter the market for five years, ending its monopoly in the search engine regime.
