Freshfields And MoFo Advised On Toppan Holdings $1.8 Billion Acquisition Of Sonoco’s TFP Business
Morrison & Foerster advised Japanese packaging giant Toppan Holdings on its agreement to acquire Sonoco’s Thermoformed and Flexibles Packaging (TFP) business for approximately $1.8 billion. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer represented Sonoco in the deal.
The acquisition strengthened Toppan’s sustainable packaging operations in North and South America by leveraging Sonoco’s established sales network, customer base, and solution development capabilities in the region. The TFP business, which catered to the food, retail, and medical sectors, reported pro forma standalone revenue of around $1.3 billion in 2023.
This move aligned with Toppan’s strategy to become a global leader in sustainable packaging solutions, while also supporting Sonoco’s efforts to simplify its portfolio.
