He was previously serving at the Securities and Futures Commission

The Magic Circle firm Linklaters has added Roger Cheng as a partner in the corporate practice.

Cheng has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions in various sectors and in equity capital market transactions, including IPOs.

On his appointment, Linklaters described him as, “A rare partner-level private practitioner, who has a deep insight into the regulatory framework.”

Cheng commented, “Linklaters has a strong reputation for its market-leading corporate practice. I am delighted to join such a fantastic team. I look forward to working closely with our clients and helping them achieve their strategic objectives.”

Cheng was a partner at Slaughter and May, where he trained and qualified. For five years, he worked with the city’s financial regulator, the Securities and Futures Commission as a senior director and head of the takeovers team.

During his SFC tenure, Cheng assisted in developing the regulator’s policy initiatives, including listing and post-listing regulations. He acted as a co-leader of the Asia Pacific Takeovers Regulators Forum and developed mutual regulatory insight between Hong Kong and regulators from other regions, including Singapore.
