Greenberg Traurig Expands Energy Practice as Shashank Krishna joins in London

In a strategic move to further expand its Energy & Natural Resources Practice, global law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP has recently welcomed Shashank Krishna as a shareholder in its London office. Having joined from Baker Botts on June 23, Krishna assumes the leadership of the energy practice in London.

Richard A. Rosenbaum, Executive Chairman of Greenberg Traurig, highlighted the significant value Shashank Krishna brings to the firm's Energy & Natural Resources Practice.

According to Rosenbaum, with his extensive international experience, expertise, and industry knowledge in the energy, sustainability, and infrastructure sectors, Krishna will play a vital role in shaping the firm's endeavours to assist clients in achieving their net-zero ambitions.

“Shashank is known as a leader in his field for his hands-on support to clients and for bringing a collaborative, out-of-the-box, and problem-solving mindset with an ability to navigate across diverse cultures and jurisdictions. He embodies the qualities we look for in an attorney and a leader and fits with our firm's dynamic, open, and collaborative culture. Energy and infrastructure have been a strategic priority for the firm in the United States and worldwide as the clean energy transition is well underway. Coupled with global concerns around climate change, energy security, and affordability, the demand for specialist advice in this sector has never been greater. Shashank will play an integral role in expanding our Energy & Natural Resources, Infrastructure, and Government Contracts practices,” Rosenbaum said.

Krishna's clientele spans various industries on an international scale, with a particular focus on renewables, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, clean transport, infrastructure, and defence.

Krishna’s legal expertise revolves around intricate and high-value energy and infrastructure projects throughout the value chain, with a particular focus on Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), joint ventures, project development, and financing.

Krishna's legal career has taken him across renowned international firms in London, Singapore, and New Delhi. He has been involved in transactions spanning nearly 50 jurisdictions, with a cumulative value of almost $100 billion. His advisory portfolio in the power sector alone surpasses 28 GW across various technologies.

Fiona Adams, the London office managing shareholder and Global Corporate Practice co-chair, expressed her enthusiasm for the inclusion of Shashank in the London team. She emphasised that having a lawyer of Shashank's caliber strengthens the office's ability to offer exceptional guidance to clients navigating the intricacies of the energy, infrastructure, and government contracts sectors in the UK, Europe, and beyond.

“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape our industries and societies – to decarbonise them and put them on a sustainable path. Clients are increasingly taking a global ‘whole of business and society’ approach in navigating these opportunities and challenges. They require customised global legal strategies with local knowledge and expertise to deal with these changes in an evolving political landscape. Greenberg Traurig's impressive global reach, with 47 offices on four continents and a strong presence in London, provides an excellent synergy to my own international practice and client base,” Krishna said.

“My clients and I also deeply value the firm's commitment to sustainability – as one of the few global law firms with net carbon-neutral offices – and diversity – reflected in its origin story, one of the highest numbers of diverse attorneys in its ranks, and achievement of Mansfield 5.0 Certification Plus. I am excited to join a firm that shares my core values and lead its efforts from London in this space, collaborating across practice areas and jurisdictions to help shape and lead the industries and markets where our clients operate or want to,” Krishna added.
