King & Spalding has announced that Benjamin Softness has joined the firm’s Business Litigation practice group as a partner in the San Francisco office.
Softness was formerly Regulatory and Litigation Counsel at Google, where he led AI regulatory response and litigation, managing cross-functional teams responding to global regulatory inquiries concerning generative AI. He also developed strategic compliance enhancements and provided crisis management legal counsel. His experience includes resolving matters with state attorneys general, U.S. federal regulators, and international data privacy regulators on issues such as privacy, consumer protection, securities, and satellite communication regulations.

Prior to joining Google, Softness was a Partner at trial and appellate litigation boutique Kellogg, Hansen, Todd, Figel & Frederick in Washington, D.C. He also served as a law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He holds a J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree from Amherst College.
