AIG Names Rose Marie Glazer as Permanent General Counsel

American International Group (AIG), the prominent insurance company based in the United States, has named Rose Marie Glazer as the permanent General Counsel. This decision follows the withdrawal of the initially announced hire, Patricia Walsh, from the position.

Having served as interim General Counsel since October, Glazer assumed the role permanently after the former General Counsel, Lucy Fato, was promoted to vice chair. Patricia Walsh, the General Counsel at global payments business Stripe, who was originally set to start this month, backed out of the move. Consequently, Glazer, who had temporarily taken on the role, is now officially the General Counsel and was due to resume her position as Chief Human Resources and Diversity Officer. In her capacity as General Counsel, Glazer will oversee the legal, compliance, regulatory, and government affairs functions of the company.

Consequently, Glazer, who had temporarily taken on the role, will not return to her position as Chief Human Resources and Diversity Officer. In her capacity as General Counsel, Glazer will oversee the company’s legal, compliance, regulatory, and government affairs functions.

AIG announced that Walsh, whose appointment was initially revealed in October, has chosen to remain at Stripe. However, no further details regarding her decision were provided by AIG.

“The legal, business and governance expertise that Rose Marie has demonstrated during her tenure, including most recently as interim general counsel, reaffirms that she is uniquely qualified for this leadership position,” Peter Zaffino, AIG chairman and CEO, said.

He stressed that Rose Marie had played a pivotal role in advancing the strides made to position AIG as a leading global insurer. He expressed anticipation for the ongoing association with her.

Glazer has been associated with AIG since 2017, initially joining as Deputy General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. She was later elevated to the position of Chief Human Resources Officer in January 2022. Prior to her tenure at AIG, Glazer worked at Siemens from 2004, holding various senior legal roles, including serving as General Counsel for five years. Her professional journey includes in-house positions at Telvista (as General Counsel), Cogent Communications (as Assistant General Counsel), and American Airlines (as an in-house attorney). Glazer commenced her career in private practice at Jones Day.
