SNG & Partners Designates Amit Aggarwal As Managing Partner

SNG & Partners, a renowned law firm established in 1962 and led by Rajesh Narain Gupta, has made a significant announcement regarding its leadership. Amit Aggarwal, the Senior Partner at SNG & Partners, has been appointed as the Managing Partner (Corporate & Non-Contentious Practice), effective from April 3, 2024. In his new role, Amit will oversee the firm’s Corporate and Non-Contentious Practice, succeeding Founder Rajesh Narain Gupta, who will now serve as the Founder and Chairman, providing strategic guidance to the firm.

Amit brings extensive expertise in structured finance, trade finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, financial services, and capital markets to his new role. Recognized as an authority in Banking and Financial Services, he has authored and co-authored several books on various legal subjects, including highly regarded titles such as ‘Dishonour of Cheques and Innovative Digital Frauds’, ‘Law Relating to Guarantees’, and ‘Documentary Letters of Credit - A review of cases from the courts of India’. Additionally, Amit has played a pivotal role in expanding the firm's presence from Mumbai to international locations such as Singapore and Doha. He holds a degree in Law from the University of Delhi and is also a qualified Company Secretary from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).

Commenting on this development, Founder and Chairman Rajesh Narain Gupta expressed his confidence in Amit's abilities, stating, “Amit has been with SNG & Partners for upwards of two decades now. With an illustrious and impactful professional journey, he has stood out as someone whose values are aligned with the firm’s values. Not only has he handled complex and multi layered issues in the key high-stake matters handled by the firm, he has also mentored other Partners to take on leadership roles. Today, he plays a pivotal role in strategizing, devising and implementing the firm’s expansion plans. He takes personal interest in broadening firm’s practice to widen services to our clients. I wish him all the very best for this role and hope he propels SNG & Partners to newer heights.”

Amit Aggarwal acknowledged the responsibility associated with his new role, saying, "While I am excited to begin my journey in the new role, I know that I have big boots to fill." He emphasized his commitment to continuing the firm's growth trajectory, stating, "Along with practice area and geographical expansion, my key focus will be to enlarge the talent pool and promote merit-based growth as the DNA of the firm."

He further outlined his plans for the firm, highlighting a culture of learning, mentorship, and collaboration. “At SNG & Partners, we have consciously built a culture of learning and mentorship. This means that while there’s Partner involvement in every transaction, every team member irrespective of the designation has an opportunity to sit on the negotiation table. We are invested in our team and we believe in building more leaders as we grow. While we are building multidisciplinary teams, integration will be at the core of the firm’s values and we remain committed to create the culture of profound collaboration amongst all our team members. With opportunities of client-servicing arising at global levels, we will also continue to build strategic alliances in the global legal community to address our clients’ legal requirements.”

Bithika Anand and Nipun K Bhatiaa from Legal League Consulting, who facilitated the transition process, jointly stated "Working on a transition project like this and ensuring that it is a seamless one requires a certain skill and expertise as it is a major milestone for a firm. We applaud Rajesh for this progressive decision and congratulate Amit on his new role. Amit has been heavily invested in focusing on what’s best for the firm. With this alignment, he stood as the perfect choice for taking the responsibility of a Managing Partner. We are glad to have supported them and thank them for entrusting us to steer the transition process. Hope this will encourage many present Founders & Managing Partners to understand that a key part of succession planning is developing the next generation of leaders through plans and processes, handheld by experts."

It is worth noting that the firm previously appointed Sanjay Gupta as Managing Partner – Dispute Resolution Practice in August 2022. Since then, SNG & Partners has welcomed Partners across various practice areas and has additionally announced organic promotions, resulting in the firm's Partner headcount increasing to 24. Moreover, in February of the current year, the firm officially launched its dedicated Japan Desk. This strategic move aims to strengthen Indo-Japan bilateral relations and extend services to both Japanese companies seeking to invest and conduct business in India, as well as Indian companies looking to expand their operations in Japan.

With the appointment of Amit Aggarwal as Managing Partner, SNG & Partners continues its trajectory of growth and expansion, further solidifying its position as a leading law firm in India.
