He was leading the legal practice for Johnson & Johnson’s pharma business

Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group has announced the hiring of Tapan Pati as the senior vice president and general counsel.

He will lead the legal team comprising over 30 lawyers and will report to Nyrika Holkar, the executive director at the firm.

Pati has over 23 years of experience advising multinational companies in diverse sectors including manufacturing, food, hospitality, retail, and pharmaceuticals. These pertain to a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions, legal compliances, and litigation across the South Asian market. He worked closely with senior business leaders across functions and geographies.

After obtaining his LL.B. degree from the National Law School, Bangalore, he began his career at Andersen Legal and later worked with Luthra and Luthra and Lex Regis before moving in-house.

He is an advocate of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa and the Bar Council of the Supreme Court of India. He is also a member of the Intellectual Property Rights Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in India.

Pati has worked for three large US-headquartered multinationals operating in India, leading their legal and advisory practice. Until recently, he was heading the legal practice for the pharma business of Johnson & Johnson.
