Ex-Netflix director to set up Priyanka Chaudhari & Associates to offer innovative solutions to legal problems in multiple sectors
Former Netflix India Director and Counsel Priyanka Chaudhari is all set to start a new inning in her over 15 years of law career by setting up her independent practice. The venture named Priyanka Chaudhari & Associates (PCA) will find innovative solutions to legal problems while focusing on the business and vision of its clients.
She had a successful stint with the American streaming platform Netflix, defending the company and its contents in courts, regulatory forums and investigations.
Priyanka will use her expertise and deep knowledge of the entertainment media for her clients and offer services in other sectors like technology, intellectual property (IP), corporate and commercial, labour and employment, real estate, litigation and dispute resolution laws.
According to Priyanka, she will endeavour to build a unique work arrangement by mixing legal skill sets and business knowledge as her motto is client first.
She further added that her goal is not to restrict herself to a limited capacity as an external counsel, but to jump into the daily grind and serve clients by being hands-on.
"This may be an industry first and a new method of working for law firms and clients," Priyanka said.
During her over a decade-and-a-half-long legal career, Priyanka has been associated with various companies and law firms. Before joining Netflix in May 2019, she worked with Balaji Telefilms Ltd between January 2017 and May 2019 as vice president and group legal head.
She had moved on to Balaji Telefilms from Zee Entertainment where she worked for two years as manager - contracts and legal operations between 2015 and 201.
Priyanka's stint that developed into a specialty in entertainment media started in November 2013 when she joined Star India as associate manager legal and spent 13 months with the company before moving on to Zee Entertainment.
She also worked with the Bharti AXA Life Insurance Company as associate manager contracts and legal operations between December 2011 and August 2013.
Earlier, she worked with several solicitor firms that specialised in corporate commercial, real estate, and dispute resolution areas of practice.
Priyanka was the first content IP lawyer at Netflix India responsible for collaborating with the creative, business, and legal affairs to acquire and develop intellectual property and guide the media company through production and distribution processes.
Besides, she also held leadership roles in mentoring large to mid-size teams that contributed to larger legal strategies impacting the business and served as an internal, cross-functional expert, as well on all areas of IP law.
Priyanka said that with her 360-degree level of experience honed over 15 years, working as both a legal counsel and as a client with law firms, made her realise that now would be a perfect time to venture out independently.
"I believe in being agile, nimble and adaptive to fit a global and local business mindset. I have always been a strong advocate of creative freedom and supporting a creator's vision," she said and added that her team at PCA would continue treading on the same path.
