Two CLO experts, Joseph Gambino and Peter Williams a on to capital markets practice of the magic circle firm

To boost its US capital markets practice, Linklaters has appointed two finance partners from Alston & Bird in New York.

Both Joseph Gambino and Peter Williams, are joined by Elizabeth Walker, senior associate. Emphasising predominantly on collateralised loan obligations (CLOs) the new partners' practices motivates on structured credit deals. They frequently advise financial institutions on supervisory issues that are connected to CLOs and other structured products and derivatives.

Former Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft, special counsel Gambino, for almost four years connects just after over a year-and-a-half as a partner at Alston & Bird. Prior to his latest spell in private practice, Gambino worked in sales and trading at Stifel Financial Corp, FSI Capital and Merrill Lynch.

Previously Williams was also special counsel for more than 17 years at Cadwalader like Gambino, connects just after more than 18 months at Alston & Bird. Williams was an equity trader at Fidelity Investments before to his career in private practice. At Alston & Bird and Cadwalader, Walker worked with Gambino and Williams as well.

The twosome are the most recent US partner appointments for the magic circle firm, having signed up Donald Waack regulatory partner who joined in June 2022 from Morgan Lewis & Bockius in Washington DC and employment partner Andrew Gaines from Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison in New York.

With huge international networks having US expansion high up on their agendas when all four UK Magic Circle firms– adapted their partner pay systems to allow for big ticket hires stateside have for over the last two years, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Allen & Overy have been making most of the running around.

In 2020, Freshfields remarkably appointed two M&A partners in New York from Wall Street leader Cravath Swaine & Moore in 2021 and hiring five partners from four US rivals before inaugurating a Silicon Valley office
