Allen & Overy strengthens Employment Law practice with the appointment of Hanneke Bennaars
Hanneke Bennaars has been named as partner in A&O's practice area for employment law.
Hanneke's was as an associate professor at the University of Amsterdam before joining Allen & Overy. She practiced as a lawyer for 15 years before that.
A&O's market-leading worldwide employment practice is now even stronger thanks to Hanneke's hiring. It further enhances the company's reputation for assisting customers in navigating a complicated environment involving people and the workforce.
Hanneke's experience as an Associate Professor and consultant to the Dutch government and European organizations has given her a deep understanding of labour law. Her participation in the Employment Regulation Committee, which provided counsel to the Dutch government on a review of labour legislation, is noteworthy.
Besides practicing law, Hanneke also serves on the boards of the Social Law Monographs Series and the Employment Law in Context publication as editor-in-chief of the professional labour law journal "Arbeidsrecht." She is also a frequent speaker and writer on the subject of labour law.
"We are thrilled that Hanneke has decided to join Allen & Overy," said Brechje van der Velden, a senior partner at Allen & Overy in the Netherlands. "Our global mission to advice on matters of strategic and commercial relevance to our clients is strengthened by Hanneke's expertise," he added.
Hanneke's appointment is set to complement the firm's global ambition to advise on issues of strategic and commercial priority to clients especially in light of the increasing significance of CSR initiatives in the business. Suzanne Sikkink has stepped down from her role as Managing Director to focus on people strategy and business coaching. But she will continue to serve as Of Counsel to our company alongside Hanneke.
Allen & Overy, Netherlands partner and employment law group head Arnold Keizer remarked, "Hanneke will play a crucial role in the ongoing development of our firm's employment law business with her comprehensive knowledge and expertise, her strong international reputation, and extensive network." ESG, DE&I, increasing regulation of labour, the increased attention on directors and shifting social expectations are just some of the factors altering the strategic employment and benefits environment at a breakneck pace. Hanneke's background in both the domestic and global arenas is a wonderful fit for the services we offer to our clients.
I'm excited to get back to practicing law," Hanneke Bennaars continued. "All areas of employment and pension law are covered by Allen & Overy's dynamic and competent staff. The workplace is evolving at a dizzying rate, and I am excited to help the firm's Dutch and international clients adapt to these new conditions," she concluded.
