Robert D. Hays Jr. has been re-elected as the Chairman of Kings & Spalding, an international law firm, for his seventh consecutive term. His next three-year term began on January 1, 2024.
“That the partnership has elected Robert to a seventh term as chairman underscores his vision and unwavering commitment to the success of our firm and all of its people,” said Zach Fardon on behalf of the firm’s Policy Committee.
“Robert was first elected Chair of King & Spalding in 2006, that began an era of unprecedented growth and achievement for the firm that continues today,” Zach Fardon added.
Under Hays’ leadership, Kings & Spalding has undergone a significant transformation from a regional firm to a Top 20 global powerhouse with 23 offices around the world and a team of 1,300 lawyers. In the American Lawyer 100 ranking in 2023, the firm’s profitability ranking rose to 12th from 42nd in 2006, and its revenue ranking rose to 17th from 38th in 2006.
“It is an honour to once again be entrusted with the stewardship of this fantastic firm as we look to the next stage in our evolution,” Hays said. “King & Spalding’s success truly has been a team effort by everyone in the firm and reflects the collective grit and dedication of our people on behalf of our clients and the firm.”
Hays graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honours. He was also a Morehead Scholar during his time there. Later, he earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School, where he was selected to the Vanderbilt Law Review and was a Patrick Wilson Scholar.
