DLA Piper Bolsters Tokyo Finance Practice With Addition Of Masahiro Wakabayashi

DLA Piper has deepened its finance practice bench in Tokyo with the addition of Senior Counsel Masahiro Wakabayashi, Former General Counsel and head of compliance of Japan’s Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley PB Securities.

With a focus on finance, Masahiro Wakabayashi specializes in Providing Counsel on regulatory and compliance matters encompassing investment banking, private banking, wealth management, derivatives, markets transactions, power plant infrastructure, and real estate investments.

Commencing his Legal Career in 1995 at Mitsui, Yasuda, Wani & Maeda in Tokyo, Wakabayashi later joined Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, one of Japan’s prominent Law Firms. Transitioning to in-house practice in 2004, he assumed the role of Counsel and Vice President at Deutsche Bank. Subsequently, he held senior positions at Merrill Lynch Japan Securities and JPMorgan Securities Japan, accumulating extensive experience in finance and legal operations.

In 2019, Wakabayashi transitioned to Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley PB Securities as the Group's General Counsel after serving as the Group General Counsel of IDI Infrastructures, a Japanese fund.

In addition to his corporate roles, Wakabayashi has provided advisory services to the Japanese government on legislative matters, including contributions to the Civil Rehabilitation Law and the Small and Medium Enterprise Investment Limited Liability Partnership Act.
