Ashurst advised on joint venture for Taiwan's inaugural subsea cable factory

Ashurst, a multinational law firm based in London, provided legal advice to Walsin Lihwa, a Taiwanese cable company, on its joint venture with NKT HV Cables AB, a Danish cable giant, to produce Taiwan's first subsea cable for offshore power.

Walsin will provide capital while NKT will offer expertise and technical support for the production. NKT will transfer the latest offshore power cable industry technology to Taiwan through this joint venture.

The Ashurst team, led by Joshua Cole, head of corporate transactions in Asia based in Hong Kong, was supported by Michelle Phang, partner, and Lisa Hui, counsel, in Singapore. The team also included Sean Ching, senior associate, and Kim Do Yeon and Jessica Leung, associates, based in Hong Kong.

In addition, Angie Ng, a partner in Singapore, and Denis Fosselard, a partner in Brussels, provided advice on the competition aspects of the joint venture. They were supported by Adelle Elhosni, a senior associate, based in Abu Dhabi.

Established in 1966, Walsin Lihwa has been listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange since 1972.

NKT is a prominent supplier of power cable solutions, specializing in high-voltage offshore cable systems that are designed and produced at its facilities in Europe. The company possesses cutting-edge technologies in offshore wind farms and has extensive expertise in the manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of submarine cables.
