CMS Advised Aldar Properties on £230 Million Acquisition of London Square

International law firm CMS has advised Aldar Properties (Aldar), a leading UAE-based real estate developer, investor, and manager, on its acquisition of London Square Developments for an enterprise value of £230 million. This landmark acquisition marks Aldar’s first venture beyond the MENA region, signifying its strategic entry into the UK housing developer market.

The acquisition positions the United Kingdom, and specifically London Square, as a key pillar in Aldar’s global expansion strategy. By leveraging the strength of both the UK market and London Square’s established presence, Aldar is poised for significant growth in this new territory.

London Square, a leading residential and mixed-use developer in Greater London, boasts a diverse portfolio specialising in delivering homes across various tenures. Notably, it holds the status of a registered provider of affordable housing, a key segment of its operations.

John O’Connor, Partner at CMS Dubai, voiced delight for the firm’s role in the key acquisition. He stated that CMS was thrilled to advise their longstanding client on this strategic deal, a significant milestone for Aldar. The firm’s ability to assemble a multi-disciplinary, cross-border team spanning the UAE and the UK, with extensive experience in complex transactions, was central to facilitating the project. O’Connor expressed eagerness to see Aldar’s continued growth and advancement.

O’Connor spearheaded the CMS advisory team, joined by Alan Crawford and Neil Lacey (both specialising in real estate). They received valuable support from Kiren Matharu, Stephen Kilshaw, and a large contingent of over 60 skilled CMS legal professionals located across the UK and UAE.
