Leading international Arbitration Practitioner Sunyoung Kim will join Baker McKenzie & KL Partners Joint Venture Law Firm ("Baker McKenzie KLP JV") as a Partner, effective May 20, 2024. This addition strengthens the Baker McKenzie KLP JV's capabilities and enhances Baker McKenzie's focus on dispute resolution and international arbitration globally.
Sunyoung holds a master's degree in law from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor's degree in law from Yonsei University in Korea. She is licensed to practice law in both Korea and New York.
Having previously served as an Associate in Baker McKenzie's Hong Kong office from 2009 to 2012, Sunyoung brings extensive experience in international arbitration. Her practice centers on representing clients in disputes before leading arbitration institutions such as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), and the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB), as well as in ad-hoc arbitrations.
Sunyoung has represented multinational corporations, government entities, defense contractors, and prominent individuals in various commercial disputes, including those related to cross-border joint ventures and M&A transactions in sectors such as construction, shipping, energy, and natural resources. Additionally, she provides counsel on investor-state matters.
