In April, Singapore will launch a startup accelerator focused on legal technology, the first of its kind in Asia, said the Singapore Academy of Law, a government body that promotes the city-state’s legal industry.
The Future Law Innovation Programme, a two-year pilot programme started at the beginning of last year by SAL, will roll out the accelerator.
The accelerator will be open to legal tech startups around the world interested in supporting the Singapore legal market; it will use the city-state as the main office for future expansion abroad. There will be no limits on the number of startups invited to the three to six month long accelerator.
Paul Neo, SAL’s chief operating officer and executive director of SAL Ventures, which runs FLIP, said,
“The entire premise of the accelerator is for startups to gain traction and hit milestones faster than they would be able to do so by themselves,” It was exactly a year ago when the legal tech startup Accelerate was supposed to be launched. While FLIP made the announcement last January, it did not go ahead with the launch as it decided to redesign the program to allow for a more bespoke experience in response to industry feedback.
