Top 10 US firm Jones Day is changing long-serving managing partner Stephen Brogan for the first time in two decades for his hand-picked inheritor, litigator Gregory Shumaker.

On 1 January, 2023 Shumaker will become the eighth managing partner only in long 130th year of the firm. It maintains its tradition of allowing its obligatory to select its descendant.

Since Jack Reavis held the position for 26 years between 1948 and 1974, Brogan's tenure is the firm's longest tenure.

Shumaker began his career with Jones Day, 35 years ago. In 1997, he became a partner and played many headship roles within the firm. It includes partner-in-charge of the Washington office and hiring partner all across the firm.

Since 2015 he has headed the firm's world-wide disputes practice. Shumaker will take over from the beginning of 2023.

Brogan mentioned, "Being brilliant lawyer and a confirmed forerunner, Greg Shumaker is a Jones Day lifer, since 1986, as summer clerk, and he loves the firm. He has the aptitude and devotion to take the firm along its incredible achievement, accepting both the prospects and accountabilities of the firm in the upcoming legal profession."

Jones Day has extended in Australia, Latin America and revived Middle East, adding more than 600 lawyers and 18 new offices internationally, all under Brogan's 20-year stewardship.

According to Shumaker, Steve Brogan has been one of the most significant partners in Jones Day's long history. Since his interview, more than 35 years ago, in law school, Shumaker carried on admiring Brogan's charming leadership skills.

Brogan has been the most responsible person for converting Jones Day into an exclusively integrated global law partnership from a first-rate national law firm with a Midwestern base.
