Top 10 US firm Jones Day is changing long-serving managing partner Stephen Brogan for the first time in two decades for his hand-picked inheritor, litigator Gregory Shumaker.
On 1 January, 2023 Shumaker will become the eighth managing partner only in long 130th year of the firm. It maintains its tradition of allowing its obligatory to select its descendant.
Since Jack Reavis held the position for 26 years between 1948 and 1974, Brogan's tenure is the firm's longest tenure.
Shumaker began his career with Jones Day, 35 years ago. In 1997, he became a partner and played many headship roles within the firm. It includes partner-in-charge of the Washington office and hiring partner all across the firm.
Since 2015 he has headed the firm's world-wide disputes practice. Shumaker will take over from the beginning of 2023.

Jones Day has extended in Australia, Latin America and revived Middle East, adding more than 600 lawyers and 18 new offices internationally, all under Brogan's 20-year stewardship.
According to Shumaker, Steve Brogan has been one of the most significant partners in Jones Day's long history. Since his interview, more than 35 years ago, in law school, Shumaker carried on admiring Brogan's charming leadership skills.
Brogan has been the most responsible person for converting Jones Day into an exclusively integrated global law partnership from a first-rate national law firm with a Midwestern base. Almost 50 years of service to the firm, the attorneys during the course of all offices work collectively provided the highest level of client service all through."
